Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, I am able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with many other mental health conditions like bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia spectrum, anti-social personality disorder and others. With help from a therapist, you can learn how to manage your symptoms and lead a happy, healthy life.

Online sessions are held from the safety of your home, car or any other place where you can have privacy and a good WI-FI connection and at a time that is convenient for you through our easy scheduling platform.
Getting help for alcohol or drug addiction takes courage. Online counseling makes getting started or returning to services a lot easier. You can access online therapy services from home or from wherever you have enough privacy using a high speed internet connection with your computer, phone or tablet. Connecting is easy, just a few clicks, and you're ready to go.
Using the video meeting platform, I provide HIPPA compliant, secure, private individual sessions where you can discuss your feelings and experiences with me. Many people prefer online therapy to in-person therapy. Many say they are surprised by how comfortable they feel doing treatment in their own home. Clients say they can open up and address issues faster than if they were meeting at a private office or traditional outpatient facility.
Many people will suffer from past traumas, which can lead to substance abuse and even addiction. Learning how to manage the symptoms of the traumas and possibly PTSD can go along way to managing the disease of addiction
I specialize in substance abuse and addiction problems. If you, a family member or a friend needs help with stopping, I can help. Thomas Mittelsteadt LPC, CSAC is one of a few practitioners in North East Wisconsin that offers Co-Occurring Therapy. What is it? Co-Occurring Therapy will treat, not only the substance abuse of a client, but also other mental health issues the client has as well. I offer individual sessions or a program of group therapy combined with individual therapy. Many times, addiction is a secondary problem to the root issue that a person may be dealing with. Mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, PTSD, Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia, OCD, Borderline PD, and others are the concerns a person needs to deal with along with the addiction issue. Some people became addicted because of a mental health problem, and sometimes the addiction created the mental health problem. Whatever the sequence of the events, the client needs help with both problems, and I can help guide the client to a better quality of life.
What is a "process addiction"? A process addiction is when a person gets "addicted" to a behavior such as sex, gambling, shopping, hoarding, relationships/love, video gaming, the internet and so on. The excessive overuse of these behaviors can be just as troubling and interfere with life just as much as any chemical addiction.
